The Birr Rally was another brilliant event in this year’s rally season and a great chance for me to take more rally photos and practise my photography skills. Held on Sunday, 29th March 2026, the rally brought together plenty of fast cars, skilled drivers, and lots of excited spectators.
After attending Galway, Mayo, and West Cork earlier in the season, the Birr Rally was another exciting day where I could keep improving and capturing more action shots.
The Birr Rally is known for its competitive stages and strong entry list of drivers. Even though it takes place over one day, there is loads happening from early morning until the final cars finish the stages.
The rally day usually includes:
Rally mornings always start early, but once the engines start and the first cars come through, it’s always worth it.
Every rally is different, and the Birr Rally gave me another chance to practise taking photos in new locations. Finding a good safe viewing spot is always important, and once I had a good position, it was time to wait for the cars.
During this rally, I focused on:
Some cars came through corners sideways, throwing mud and gravel — those moments always make the best photos.
One of the best parts of the Birr Rally was seeing so many different rally cars taking part. Each car looks different and moves differently through the stages, which makes photography even more interesting.

Every rally helps me improve my skills and makes me more confident with my camera.
The Birr Rally is popular with drivers and spectators because it offers exciting stages and a strong rally atmosphere.

Even though it’s a one-day rally, there is loads to see and photograph.
One of my favourite moments from the Birr Rally was catching a car sliding perfectly through a corner just as I pressed the shutter. Getting that timing right always feels brilliant.
Another highlight was seeing the service crews working quickly between stages. It’s amazing how fast they can fix and prepare cars before they head back out.

I’m really enjoying following the rally season and improving with every event I attend.
